Chapter 3: Target: Guardian Statue of Elbesem
Script typed up by: Lineage
Woman near big tent:
Earlier, another Republican army fought Imperial forces in order to cross the bridge. Suffering huge losses, they succeeded and proceeded east through Barrand. The wounded are resting in the tent.
Whoo! Yea! Army! Hi, I'm JJ! That battle was exciting! Now I can't keep still! Ai laaaaaaate!
I am the epitome of a nomad. I've been roaming for 50 years now. Is there anyone as seasoned as me? There is, however, one region... that even I would not dare step into. It's the other side of the Great Wall. Grisly monsters, primitive natives... There's an intriguing legend, however, about the ancient City of Steam.
Woman near small tent:
The Guardian Statue beyond the eastern mountain is a statue made out of gold. If a statue was left in such a place, you'd expect a thief would steal it, but it has stood there forever.
The Imperial army left Vagabond alone. A beautiful woman was leading them, and they had some colorful uniforms. It's absurd that such and army would actually engage in a battle.
Oh, you people are from the Republic. Even after the Imperial invasion, Barrand still belongs to the Republic. It's hard traveling in Imperioal lands. They exact bribes at check points, not to mention rude luggage inspectors!
This is the camp of Vagabond. Vagabond means "wandering drifter." Think of it as a caravan of gypsies.
The life of a gypsy is ever changing. To be traveling every day though... I sometimes wish I could settle down.
Huh? Aren't you the... I remember you from the mansion. Thanks for helpong me get outta there. Yes... outdoor fresh air feels great! This thing is in top condition, too! All right then... Guess I'll be moving along now. We shall meet again somewhere.
Evil spirits are gathering east of here. We priests try very hard to monitor them and keep vigilant. I'm worried because to the east is the Guardian Statue, which protects the Demon Gate. If they are gathering there...
The priest says that evil spirits are heading east, and it is becoming very dangerous. Also to the east is the Guardian Statue, which looks over Elbesem. It deters invasions from the north.
The topography of Barrand is complex. It is very difficult to mount an offensive attack via land. General Rogan's plan was ingenious. Advancing from the sea in the Seagate, he seized Barrand in one fell swoop.
In order to reach Barrand from here, be prepared for harsh mountain ranges. Taking a shop is not much better. With swirling currents near Barrand, a small boat won't reach the shore.
If you go due south from the Guardian Statue, you will first come to the town of Barrand. Go further south and you will find the Holy Road, which leads form the ocean into Elbesem.
Usually, there is no need for a weapon shop here... I had long given up hope of ever making good money. Then, the battle by the border began, and now the customers are pouring in!
We'll leave going through Aspia and up north once we get to Malorie, as we follow the Great Wall towards Lookover.
Eastern tent with egg
For a young person like you, caravan tents must be pretty strange. This tent lends out aid to the others. There is nothing interesting here.
I just found an egg, and so I'll make a cheese omelet. Would you care to join me?
Begin choice options
Yes? You like cheese omelets, too? Wait there, and I'll cook it right away!
You want to buy the egg? I wanted that cheese omelet, so it will cost you. I'll sell the egg for 100 gold coins.
Begin choice options
I knew you'd say that... All right then. I'll start cooking the egg... where did I put the cheese?
Seriously? You'd pay that for an egg? Well, business is business... I'll take your money now. Odd... an egg I find fetches 100 coins. In this strange world, one never knows where and when luck falls upon you.
It seems only window shoppers come to our shabby tent. You... don't look as if ... you are here to buy anything. That's all right. Do as you please.
As a Republican soldier in the war, you wouldn't consider buying this? A fortune telling gizmo. It can be your good luck charm in battle! Sigh... I guess you don't care...
A Republican and an Imperial army battled near the border... wounded Republican soldiers were brought here. The wounded are being treated and hospitalized back over there. If you can, why don't you visit them?
Before Garvin established Saraband, caravans traveled to various regions trading each land's unique products. Because of the railroad line Garvin built from Aspinia to Destonia... there are far fewer caravans left nowadays.
Moving merchandise that won't sell... makes me sad. Lugging goods that won't sell makes in hard to get motivated.
What...? I'm real busy at the moment... Let's see, where to place these... The ones lined up here contain fabrics. That one, accessories... or does it? Oh, I've lost track... I have to start all over again!
... ugh... it... hurts... aarg...
... General... Edmund... ... please don't... ... leave me... here...
Do you think it is the nature of military to be merciless?
Begin choice options
If a soldier becomes a burden, the army leaves him behind... Can we really say that is merciful? You disagree cause you're an army man. Many people are suffering because of such insensitivities.
Still, that is not a good excuse to leave the injured behind and hurry along to pursue one's objectives. Republic ideology stresses fairness, but the actions of its army is no different than that of the Empire.
When approaching Justin
You are Lord Synbios of the Flagard territory? My Liege King Benetram, and... Sir Dantares also from Flagard.
So you are the soldier who was left behind by the Republican army, Justin.
He's from Edmund's army unit that guarded the capital. When Lord Conrad would visit, they always got along.
Yes. Your father, Lord Conrad, always took very good care of us and of our leader, General Edmund.
I can't believe Edmund left you... You are injured, but it's minor. I don't see why you can't do your job.
I had an argument with the General. I made him extremely angry, and so... I was... forced to leave the army...
A loyal subordinate like you... in an argument? It doens't make sense. Tell us more.
I beg you Sir Dantares. Please don't ask any more of me. I still swear loyalty to... General Edmund...
You can't even tell King Benetram about it?
I ... don't want to talk anymore. Please leave me be.
I'm sorry... please leave me alone. I have nothing further to say.
When trying to exit
Please wait, Lord Synbios!
I will talk some sense into Lord Edmund. Please... allow me to join your army.
What do you mean by that?
You don't need to say anything, Justin. Synbios' battalion accepts you gladly.
Justin the bow knight joined the force
We are very close indeed to Aspia, Synbios, even if... death awaits us, there is no turning back now.
