Chapter 6: Colossus of Aspia

MALORIE CASTLE 1F - HALLWAY
Man Near Entrance:
Lady Margaret, true to her character, has said nothing yet. She is holding on, but she is a mother, after all.
Man Near Stairs:
Prince Arrawnt, commander of the Imperial occupation, has Lord Algernon... That is not very good news...
MALORIE CASTLE 1F - WEST BARRACKS
Soldier Near Door:
I heard Lord Tristus was in extreme grief about the death of Wilmer. Everyone was so elated that Wilmer really was loyal until the very end. Soldiers of Malorie are now united tighter than ever before.
Soldier Near Painting:
Lord Tristus knows that Lord Synbios and the Malorie army collaborated in deceiving him. My lord was quite upset about that. Please be careful, Lord Synbios.
Soldier Near Window:
While Lord Tristus was locked up, he started to make quite a racket. So the guard opened the door. I was told that by then Lord Tristus knew everything about the situation... I wonder how he knew?
MALORIE CASTLE 1F - EAST BARRACKS
Soldier Near Gate:
The people are devoted to Lord Algernon, and Wilmer proved that with his life. Lord Tristus now understands it. Because of that, Lord Trisuts decided not to mobilize the Malorie army and made up his mind to wait for Lord Synbios.
Soldier in the Bedroom:
Everything hinges on Lord Synbios. If Aspia remains under occupation, the entire Republic will collapse.
MALORIE CASTLE 1F - LIBRARY
Scholar Near the Chairs:
If that giant is the guardian deity of the ancient city, then it all makes sense. It corroborates our theory that Aspia was one of the centers of the ancient civilization. If that is the case... How do we beat that thing?
Scholar Near the Bookshelf:
The giant Fynnding saw cannot be beaten by ordinary means. I have my own conclusion, and I've already told them to Lord Tristus... I recommend you ask him directly.
MALORIE CASTLE 1F - DINING ROOM
Moving Female Servant:
To go to Aspia and face all those... Lord Sybios, you're so... so very strong. I think I'm going to faint...
Standing Female Servant:
I heard that Braff's mother... was an evil priestess. Huh... I'm very disappointed.
MALORIE CASTLE 1F - ROOM TO PRISON
By order of Lord Tristus, Fynnding has been released from his cell. I assume, by now, he must be flying around doing the Lord's bidding.
If Malorie is conquered, the Republican soldiers will be treated like criminals. That means one false move, and the cells down below will be filled with Malorie soldiers...
MALORIE CASTLE 2F - HALLWAY
Left Soldier Guarding Tristus' Room:
Lord Tristus and Lady Margaret are now in the throne room. You see, I... well... see, I heard an angry voice shouting, and, well... I panicked and opened the door. That was the end of their confinement.
Right Soldier Guarding Tristus' Room:
After Lord Algernon was kidnapped we could hear laughter coming out of this room. They used to cheer up our spirits too.
Left Soldier Guarding Throne Room:
Judging from the way they managed to abduct Lord Algernon, we have a lot of work to do on our security.
Right Soldier Guarding Throne Room:
Considering our enemies' moves thus far, they must know a lot about how we operate around here. Since they probably also use ninjas to gather intelligence, no amount of security is ever enough! Damn ninjas.
MALORIE CASTLE 2F - THRONE ROOM
You have returned unharmed, Synbios. Ever since I was told about your journey, I have been very worried.
Lady Margaret, please feel at ease. Your brother has proven himself in battle, and has become a great general.
Oh, I can never feel at ease... With Synbios being so reckless... Like going to Aspia all by yourself.
I appreciate the fact... that your intention is to rescue my son Algernon. But for all that... following our father's death in Flagard, I... I cannot bear to lose my little brother too...
What Margaret is trying to say, is your father Lord Conrad was not the kind of man to take uncalculated risks. If it was me, that would be one thing. But your sister can't bear the thought of something happening to her brother. However, if Duke Palsis, Lord Conrad's trusted advisor, travels with you, you must have some chance of victory.
To be honest... in this situation, there really is no other way. Important lords and generals of the Republic... All defeated or betrayed... This seems like the only good plan.
According to Fynnding, Aspia castle is occupied by the Imperial army, with units on both sides of the moat. In addition to the soldiers... Now that the Bulzome sect is involved, the Colossus patrols the moat. Under these severe conditions, is there any hope of regaining control of that stout castle?
Lord Tristus, a man renowned for bravery should not say such cowardly things. The Empire is no match for us...
So even now, should I advance my army into Aspia, abandoning the life of my son Algernon?
No matter how brave the Malorie army may be... Against Imperial troops and the Colossus, there is no hope! I would not consider it wise for you to move your army and risk your son's life for a hopeless cause.
If that's so, what are we to do? Or are you saying it is impossible to regain control of Aspia... Duke Palsis?
I have just one plan...
While we were in the ruins, Palsis spoke of implementing the... Is that what you are talking about?
With Basanda gone, the Colossus will attack both Imperial and Republic troops. Do you remember my saying that? That would appear to be the case, judging from the words of Fynnding.
Because of that, the Imperial army is split on both sides of the moat.
I see... the Colossus is the enemy of both armies... But we still must defeat them both.
It seems the Colossus appears when people cross the moat by the stone bridge... We'll take advantage of that fact!
Using the Colossus to defeat the Imperial army... How is it possible to pull that off...?
I see... the Colossus is slow enough that if we pretend to rescue Algernon we can lure the Imperial units to the bridge.
Right... But if the horrid thing appears... It will attack not only the Imperials, but you as well!
We will use water to defeat the Colossus.
Using water to defeat...? What do you mean by that, Palsis?
We will send a second unit to open the spillway on the dam. The water will destroy the Colossus inside the moat.
What a brilliant idea.... Even the Colossus can't withstand the immense power of the water from the dam!
What about the decoys? They can hide behind the wall of the bridge, but how will they know when the water is released?
We'll send a smoke signal when we release the water. If they hurry, they will be safe from the water's fury.
There is another Empire unit on its way, but they are still far south of Storich. I recommend that we hurry, Lord Tristus.
I entrust you with the future of our Republic, Lord Synbios. Wrestle control of fair Aspia from those Imperial swine!
I know quite a lot about the dam, so I will guide you to it!
Fynnding the Birdknight joined the force.
Leave the release of the dam and the smoke signals to me.
The operation sounds so dangerous... Just listening to you talk, my body started to shiver, and I cannot stop.
I wish father could see you now, leading your own army so bravely... You have a big mission ahead of you, but I know you will be all right... I have faith in you, dear brother!
You have grown quite a bit since I saw you last, Synbios... It seems like just yesterday... You are a man now, and you hold the key to Aspia's future. I will pray for the success of your mission.
MALORIE CASTLE ROOF
Welcome back Lord Synbios. I have disturbing news I need to tell you right away! Around the front of Aspia castle's moat, the giant... thing... appeared again. But then disappeared just as quickly.
I... know I should be on watch duty... But I really want to see that giant everyone's been talking about. But, of course, I'll be looking out for Imperial armies too!
