Tavern
Old Vik:
Sorry. The tavern's closed! Oh, [name], it's you. Come on in. Bring your friends in, too. Guess what? Mr. Brax and Mrs. Myst are here. They tell me that Milo and Pyra ran away from home to join you. It seems they've been worried sick about the kids!
Old Vik:
[name]! You really passed the Trials! Allow me to congratulate you!
Mr. Brax:
[if you speak to him before Mrs. Myst]
Milo! At last I've found you! Mrs. Myst and I've been looking all over for you kids!
Mrs. Myst:
Pyra! Ye don't know how worried I've been! Come 'ere this minute!
Mrs. Myst throws Pyra over her shoulder and begins spanking her.
Pyra:
Ow! Ma?! I'm sorry, Ma! [name]! Milo! Say something!
Old Vik:
Wait, Mrs. Myst! Hold it! Just hold on a minute! Please calm down. The young knight over there needs Pyra and Milo.
Mrs. Myst:
Do ye take me for a fool, Vik? Do I look that gullible?
Pyra:
He's not lying, Ma! It's the truth! [name]! Tell her it's true!
Mrs. Myst:
Is it true, [name]?
Yes/No
If Yes
Mrs. Myst:
Oh. Well, if that's the case, I guess I can forgive Pyra. Anyway, we'll stick around just in case ye need any help.
If No
Mrs. Myst:
See! I knew [name] wouldna lie to me!
Repeat dialogue from "Ow! Ma?!" to Yes/No option.
End Yes/No
Mrs. Myst:
It looks like this village has a shortage of "real men." Catch a whiff of a monster and poof! They're hiding under their beds!
Mr. Brax:
Milo! What are you doing in a dive like this?
Tavern
(after exploring the second level of the Labyrinth)
Old Vik:
[name]! You really passed the Trials! Allow me to congratulate you!
Mrs. Vik:
Well, hello there! I just knew you'd do it! We're so proud of you!
Mrs. Myst:
This place ain't exactly a heaven for elves, is it?
Mr. Brax:
Did you see the Trader's stall? Lots of strange stuff in there!
Dai:
I understand that you've earned the right to enter the Labyrinth Proper. I pray that you'll be just as successful in rescuing the Princess.
Edward:
I've been told that you are searching for the Princess. I know much about the Labyrinth. Ask me, if you have any questions.
Dyan:
We are forever in your debt.
Throne Room
Xern:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
Theos:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
Minister:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
Vyrun:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
Tristan:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
King Drake:
[name]! You arrive at an opportune moment. Xern the Elder, who once taught Melvyl the mystic arts, is here right now. The story he told us... Well, it's best you hear it from him.
Theos:
[name], listen well to the words of Xern.
King Drake:
[name], listen well to the words of Xern.
Minister:
[name], listen well to the words of Xern.
Vyrun:
[name], listen well to the words of Xern.
Tristan:
[name], listen well to the words of Xern.
Xern:
As you may've suspected, Melvyl - my former disciple - is Mephisto. His lust for power led him to the dark reaches of the Labyrinth. The Labyrinth was built by the Ancients to serve a two-fold purpose. To seal in the Darkness, and to raise a champion should the need arise. I believe that Melvyl seeks to unleash the forces of Darkness. Here. Take the two halves of this mystic MEDALLION.
[name] receives an item: MEDALLION
Xern:
The MEDALLION can be used with any gold fountain within the Labyrinth. One half of the MEDALLION is to be cast into the waters of the fountain. Using the other half will instantly return you to that fountain. To use the MEDALLION with another gold fountain, get the other half back. Good luck and may the MEDALLION assist you in your quest.
Theos:
Mephisto may be defeated with the Arms of Light. The Arms of Light are 4 items that can only be used by a true knight.
Minister:
It's hard to believe that our hated enemy was actually one of us!
Vyrun:
Melvyl is Mephisto?! And he was right here under our very noses!
Tristan:
Curse Melvyl! I knew we shouldn't have trusted him!
King Drake:
Now, more than ever, it is up to you to return me my daughter.
Tavern
Old Vik:
[name], There's somebody here to see you. He said his name was Melvyl.
Mrs. Vik:
Step right in! There's somebody here to see you.
Old Vik:
The guy's over there. Sitting at the table.
Melvyl:
Sir [name], there's something I wished to talk to you about. Is something wrong? You seem... hostile? Hmm. I see you've found out about me.
Mephisto:
Well, that makes it all the better because I have a proposal for you. Actually, it's more of an invitation. Join me. Join with the Darkness and rule this land with me. No? Foolish child. It's a shame that this is but my image before you. I could have shown you what it means to wield true power. But I guess you'll have to find out the hard way.
Old Vik:
What happened? I feel... funny. I remember a guy was here to see you.
Mrs. Vik:
He's sitting over... that's strange? He's gone.
Tavern (later)
Mrs. Vik:
Hi! Remember that weird guy who was waiting for you? Well, it seems he had something to do with that mess at the castle.
Old Vik:
If it isn't [name]! Have you found the Princess yet? I heard that the Court Wizard was behind it all!
Mrs. Myst:
I 'eard 'bout Mephisto. Ye ask me, yer bitin' off more'n ye can chew.
Mr. Brax:
I heard that Mephisto was in here! What nerve!
Dai:
Is it true, good [name]? Is Lord Melvyl the evil Mephisto?
Dyan:
Edward is said to be well-versed in ancient lore.
Throne Room
Xern:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
Theos:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
Minister:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
Vyrun:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
Tristan:
His Majesty has been waiting for you!
King Drake:
Tell me [name].
A loud tremor. Mephisto appears.
Mephisto:
My dear King Drake. I'm sorry that you persist on staying. Since you won't give me the realm, I'll just have to resort to violence.
Xern:
Melvyl, we meet again!
Mephisto:
Well, if it isn't my muddled mentor! What fool's errand brings you here, feeble one?
Xern:
I've come to put an end to your evil once and for all! Face me, Melvyl! Or shall I call you Mephisto?!
Xern attacks Mephisto with a spell.
Mephisto:
Is that the best you can do, old man? Then have a taste of this!
Mephisto strikes Xern with Demon Breath. Xern disappears.
Mephisto:
Ha! The old dog runs away with his tail between his legs! What are you going to do, Drake, now that your "champion" is gone? Answer me, King. Or do you still dare to hope? Could it be that you have yet another "champion"? Perhaps the son of my dear Mortred? Well then, let me make him an offer. Boy! Would you like to join me? I didn't think so. Well then, let's settle this once and for all. Meet me in the Labyrinth. And I'll prove how hopeless things are.
A loud tremor. Mephisto vanishes.
King Drake:
Is there any hope of saving my daughter or my kingdom?
Xern:
Melvyl is stronger than before! I was lucky to escape with my life!
Theos:
Who can hope to win against such power? Xern, have you ever seen anything like that before?
Xern:
He uses the DEMONBREATH! Little is known of the spell. But I fear that the Arms of Light may not stand up against such power!
Theos:
Interesting. Very interesting. I must find out more.
Minister:
Is all as hopeless as it seems? Can't anything be done?
Vyrun:
I feel so useless!
Tristan:
I'm afraid the King and the Minister are in a state of shock. Need I say that we look to you to put an end to the traitor's threat?
Labyrinth
Voice:
Who's there?!
The party approaches the cell.
Jessa:
Could it be that you've come to rescue me from this flea-pit? I don't think we'll get far, unless you have the key to open this cell. To make matters worse, Mortred is guarding the key! You look shocked! You're not related to Mortred, are you? Cruel Fate! It pains me to tell you that Mortred now serves the Dark One. If my father learns of Mortred's "treachery," it will break his heart. I hate to ask this, but could you please get me the CELL KEY? Good luck!
The party continues through the labyrinth.
Voice:
Interlopers! You are intruding upon Lord Mephisto's domain! But this is as far as you go! It's a pity that your quest for the Princess must end here. Enough small talk! Prepare to meet your maker!
Mortred advances upon the party. The party defeats Mortred.
Mortred:
I... I remember a sword, DARKBLADE. Melvyl's gift. It robbed me of my will. [name], my son. Do not weep for me. After all, you freed my soul. Cursed be this sword and its source of power, the Darkness! Now, listen well. Stop Mephisto! Purge his evil from our realm! The CELL KEY lies ahead of this passage. Go! Free the Princess!
Mortred collapses, dead.
Jessa:
Blessed be the Ancients! The CELL KEY?! Is that the key that you hold in your hand? At last I'll be freed from the stench of this cell!
If you do anything besides use the CELL KEY
Jessa:
[name of leading party member], what are you waiting for? Use the CELL KEY to free me.
Leading party member uses the CELL KEY.
Jessa:
You don't know what it was like in there! I'm dying for a bath! I thank the Fates for guiding you to me! How did you ever get your hands on the CELL KEY? Oh no! No! My freedom isn't worth the price of Mortred's life! Cursed be the Darkness that twisted Mortred's good soul! Mephisto! I'll have his head one day! But for now, let us depart. I hope you don't mind me joining you.
Princess Jessa joins your party.
Tavern
Old Vik:
[name]?! How goes your quest? Find any... whoa! I didn't realize you had company. And who might this fair maiden be? Princess Jessa?! Pardon me, your highness. I didn't recognize you.
Mrs. Vik:
The Princess?! Dear me! I never thought I'd see the day when I'd meet Her Royal Highness!
Dyan:
The Princess of Thornwood. Isn't she lovely?
Dai:
Princess Jessa?! I... I don't know what to say.
Edward:
My dear Princess! Your loveliness is a blessing to us all! Dai! What's the matter? You're blushing!
Dai:
Don't listen to him, Your Highness. Haven't you got something else to do, old fella?
Old Vik:
I'm embarassed! Forgive 'em, m'lady. A common lot, they are. You should know better than to bring royalty to a joint like this! You'd better take her back to the castle right away!
If you return after
Old Vik:
What are you doing back here with Her Highness?! You aren't plannin' to run off with her or anythin', are you?
Yes/No
If No
Old Vik:
I knew it all the time! Now go on! Take the Princess to the castle!
If Yes
Old Vik:
That's nothing to joke about!
Mrs. Vik:
Wait a minute. You're just pulling Old Vik's leg. Aren't you?
Yes/No
If Yes, same as No to first question.
If No, same as Yes to first question.
End Yes/No options
Throne Room
King Drake:
Jessa! You're safe! By the heavens! You're back!
Jessa:
Oh father! My dearest father!
King Drake:
I feared you were lost to me forever! [name]! Words aren't enough to show my gratitude! Here, take this MAGIC RING as a token of my appreciation.
[name] receives an item: MAGIC RING
Xern:
Look at the skies! A dark cloud draws over us! It would seem that Mephisto's powers grow each day!
Theos:
There's no time to rest! We've yet to defeat the forces of Darkness! I almost forgot. I found something interesting regarding DEMONBREATH. Legends speak of a Dark Wizard, who once wielded this terrible spell. He met his doom at the hands of a man known only as the Shining Knight.
Jessa:
I still can't believe I'm home! I have [name] to thank for my safe return.
King Drake:
[name]! Words aren't enough to show my gratitude!
Minister:
Look at the King, [name]. You've brought true joy to his heart!
Vyrun:
I bow to you, [name]. If only there were more like you in the realm. By the way, have you ever heard the Song of the Shining Knight? "Blessed by Water Spirit. Armed in Light. Darkness fears a Shining Knight."
Tristan:
A fine job, [name]! I take pride in your accomplishment!
Tavern
Old Vik:
[name]! I'm amazed! You really saved the Princess! Way to go! I just knew you'd do it! I didn't doubt it for a minute.
Mrs. Vik:
Hello there! I thought you'd be coming around. Hey, everybody! Look! It's the hero of Thornwood! [name], you're really something. Things'll be fine with you around.
Mrs. Myst:
It's nice that ye rescued the Princess. But yer crazy to face Mephisto!
Mr. Brax:
Congratu...what's up? Why the long face? Hey! Are you alright?!
Dai:
Is there any way to stop the evil of Mephisto?
Edward:
Have you met the Water Spirit -- the Patron of the Shining Knight? If not, find the Arms of Light. Then you must find the Spirit's Fountain. It's on the 5th floor of the Labyrinth. You will also need another item. A VIAL containing the tears of one who holds you dear to her heart.
Dyan:
Mephisto, the very name sends shivers through my soul.
Throne Room
Xern:
It saddens me to know that my disciple, Melvyl caused Mortred's death.
Theos:
My condolences to you, brave knight. But don't let it get you down!
Jessa:
I know I should've kept quiet. But I felt that my father should know. I realize the grief that you feel from taking your father's life. But what you did was necessary and you should not blame yourself. Your father was a fine man. He was but a victim of the Darkness. And I won't have anybody thinking that he was a traitor to the realm! I... I think I'm going to cry!
Theos:
Don't wipe those tears! Let me put them in this VIAL for safe-keeping.
Theos:
Edward asked me to present you with this VIAL OF TEARS.
[name] receives an item: VIAL OF TEARS
Theos:
Edward also told me that the tears of the Princess would serve you best.
King Drake:
[name], Jessa's told me everything. I'm sorry to hear about your father. Mortred was my finest knight. I won't rest until he is avenged!
Minister:
It grieves me to know that you were forced to take your father's life. Avenge your father, [name]. Bring us the head of Mephisto!
Vyrun:
I admired your father. He will be sorely missed.
Tristan:
[name], your father was like a son to me.
Tavern
Old Vik:
I heard about your "rescue". How could you do it? Your own father!
Mrs. Vik:
Listen, dear! There was nobody prouder of Mortred than [name]. The poor boy. Having to fight his own father and all... You wouldn't have done half as well in his shoes, Mr. V.!
Old Vik:
Hold your tongue! Mortred's loss will be felt by all this day.
Mrs. Vik:
Don't let what happened get you down. After all, it wasn't your fault.
Mrs. Myst:
I really am sorry to hear 'bout Master Mortred. Such a fine man, he was.
Mr. Brax:
Oh dear, I'm sorry. I didn't know. Poor Mortred. Look on the bright side. You freed him from the clutches of Darkness!
Dai:
I am truly sorry for what became of your father.
Dyan:
Brave Mortred's death will be mourned by all within the Kingdom.
Labyrinth
Spirit of the Fountain:
Greetings, young warrior. You know not how long I've been expecting you. I am the Spirit of Light, and I can aid you in your quest. I see you've found the Arms of Light. Now I'll give you the power to use them to their utmost! Brace yourself!
There is a strange flashing of light.
Spirit of the Fountain:
From this moment on, you are the Champion of Light... the Shining Knight! Now, listen to me. Should you ever find yourself mortally wounded... return to this fountain. For my waters are here to heal and comfort you. Now go! Drive out the Darkness and return peace to this land!
Tavern
Old Vik:
I'm sorry for the other day. You did what you had to, lad. But it's kinda hard for me too, y'know. Mortred bein' my friend and all.
Labyrinth
Mephisto:
Admirable! Truly admirable! You may not know it, but I've been looking forward to this. Strange as it seems, [name], I've been bored. After attaining all this power, there were none to challenge me. Until now, that is. Your death will make my victory all the sweeter!
The party battles Mephisto.
[name]'s party stands victorious!
Mephisto:
Why?! Why must I lose?! By the Darkness! This cannot be! Did I not pay the price?! Is this the "power" you pledged me for my soul?! Will the Darkness allow its will to be undone by a mere child? Heed me, Darkness! Give me your all, and I'll give you the world!
Mephisto is swallowed up by the ground. He rises, transformed by the Darkness.
The party battles Mephisto again.
[name]'s party stands victorious!
Village
Weapons shop owner:
I'm closed thanks to you, because nobody needs a weapon anymore!
Armorer:
Sorry. I'm out of business now that the Evil One is gone.
Alkemist:
I'm sorry but I'm closed for today.
Priest:
Well done, Milo. You'll forever be remembered in Elven lore.
Tavern
Old Vik:
[name]! I heard you've avenged your father! Good job, lad.
Mrs. Vik:
[name]! Thanks to you, I guess there's nothing to be scared of now.
Mrs. Myst:
Who would've thought that you kids would turn out to be such heroes?
Mr. Brax:
Milo! You did good, boy! I'm really proud of you.
Dai:
I cannot thank you enough. I am forever in your debt.
Edward:
Our thanks to you! We'll never forget your kindness!
Dyan:
We paid a steep price for peace. I pray that it was all worthwhile.
If you ring the bell

Throne Room
Xern:
Pyra is it? I see an untapped potential in the girl.
Theos:
[name], thanks to you, we no longer need to fear the Darkness.
Jessa:
[name]. It's so good to see you! I've been so worried.
King Drake:
You are truly a hero among heroes!
Tristan:
Thank you for saving the realm. I'm sure Mortred is smiling right now.
Vyrun:
You've taught me what it means to be a knight. I thank you, [name].
Minister:
You saved the realm! Step forward and the King will reward you.
King Drake:
[name]. You've put an end to Mephisto and his evil designs. I declare you First Knight of the Realm! Rise, Sir [name]! I christen thee First Knight of the Realm. Now rise, Sir Knight! May you be honored as your father once was. From now and forever, you are the lord and master of Castle Thorngard. As for Milo, I appoint you Counsel to the new Lord of Thorngard. Now, what can I do for Pyra?
Xern:
I would like to have her join me so that she may learn all that I know.
King Drake:
I see that Pyra's happy with your suggestion. So be it, then. The Kingdom of Thornwood will surely prosper with you three to guide us!
Epilogue
Old Man:
Well, [name], it looks like you've saved the kingdom.
Thanks to you, peace reigns over Thornwood once again!
It's sad that I must bid you farewell. But I'm sure we'll meet again!
