Shining the Holy Ark
USA Version Script
Desire Village
Script typed up by: Rune
Young Woman:
You are the mercenaries who went into the mine, aren't you? Since that outlaw was killed in the cave-in, the survivors went back to Enrich castle. Apparently some of the regular soldiers were killed as well, and because of that they've closed the border so nobody can leave.
Boy:
The area around Desire is dangerous! North of here is the cursed mine, and Enrich Forest in the south is haunted! I'm not scared though. Well, maybe a little. There was a great war in the forest a long time ago, so now only ghosts and stuff live there. That place is creepy!
Old Woman:
Some of the mercenaries were killed in the cave-in I hear. You are very lucky to have survived. The only person to survive the cave-in was, umm, some sorcerer named Forte... He went back to the castle wth the soldiers.
Girl:
You fought in the mine didn't you? I can tell. Were you scared? I bet you were, and you know why? I was told that mine is cursed. A long time ago, when people were digging in the mine, they found a passage leading to the Godspeak. Finding that passage was the start of many bad things. Monsters, cave-ins... it was horrible. So they had to shut down the mine.
Old Man:
It was a large expedition this time. Were you part of it?
YES/NO (can repeat for both)
if YES
Old Man:
They sure made a big fuss over a small task of just catching a few outlaws... I got all excited and thought that a war had broken out or something.
if NO
Old Man:
All this ruckus when something even worse is going on. Did you see the sun? Just as the battle was going on up the mountain, the sun started to disappear, bit by bit! Now I?ve seen the sun sink into the west, but never just up and vanish! It?s a sign I tell you... Some kind of a curse.
Young Man:
This is the mining town Desire. Many people used to come here to look for gold in the nearby mine in hopes of getting rich. Now though, the mine is closed, and only a few people live here.
Desire Village Shop
Tool Shop:
Hi. We have many travel supplies here. If you are going on an adventure, you may want some of our items.
Messina:
The forest to the south is a place where the last battle was fought during the Enrich war. The graveyard behind the lake seems to be all that's left of the war. I was told not to go near the graveyard. People say that ghosts of warriors long gone would appear and challenge you.
Logan:
A smart way to fight in dungeons is to find pixies that live in various places and summon them at the moment monsters appear. If the right pixies are used against the right foes, the pixies will attack them before they get to you! And their attack power increases as the number of pixies grows. And I think they can help you find treasure too.
Weapon Shop:
Are you looking for some weapons? You can't see them from over there. Come closer and take a good look!
Caesar:
Although I don't have a lot of money, I want to buy so many things... what shall I buy?
Armor Shop:
We are the specialty store that sells armor. If you need anything to protect your body, we can help. Here, let us show you what we have.
Desire Village Blacksmith
Blacksmith:
It's been a long time since I've seen mercenaries around these parts. So, is there anything an old backsmith can do for you?
YES/NO
If NO
Blacksmith:
People of your profession often venture to dangerous places and find many interesting items. If you ever find any rare materials, be sure to bring them in. I can make very useful equipment out of rare materials, that can make a mercenary like yourself, very powerful.
If YES
Blacksmith:
For you to have come directly to me, you must have found some rare materials. Show me what you have and I may be able to make something out or them for you.
If anything but mithril
Blacksmith:
I can?t forge anything out of that! Why don?t you leave if you?re just going to waste my time.
Blacksmith:
So, is there anything an old backsmith can do for you?
YES/NO
If NO
Blacksmith:
I can?t forge anything out of that! Why don?t you leave if you are just going to waste my time.
If YES
Blacksmith:

Desire Village House
Tornearta:
The storyteller's mansion is located in the outskirts of Enrich. There, you can hear about our legends and even the history of our country. My father went there often just to listen to all their tales.
Village Chief:
It must be very boring for you mercenaries to be stuck here because the border is closed. But please try to be patient. If you get into a fight, it will distress all the people living here in Desire Village. Do you know about the ancient ruins in the south forest?
YES/NO (can repeat for both)
If YES
Village Chief:
At least one sacred treasure is said to be hidden in the ruins and it is supposedly of great power. If you have an interest, why don't you explore the ruins. However, I do hear that there are tough guardians protecting the place. If you go, try to be careful.
If NO
Village Chief:
It is one of the three ruins which are located to the East, West, and South of Enrich castle. They say that there is a riddle attacked to each ruin. If anyone can successfully solve the 3 riddles and acquire the three sacred treasures, they can climb up the Tower of Illusion. That would be a mighty accomplishmnet indeed.
if you check the Bed
Narrator:
Arthur checked the bed. There is something shining in the darkness under the bed. Do you want to take it?
YES/NO (can repeat for no)
If YES
Narrator:
Acquired on gold coin.
Village Chief:
What are you doing?
Village Chief:
What!... You come into my house and steal gold coins on the floor! How despicable! ...Umm. Well, if you are so short of money that you must resort to petty theft, you can have that... However! No matter what happens, don't ever repeat this miserable behavior in the future!
if you check the Bed
Narrator:
It doesn't look like there are any more gold coins.
Outside of Church
Boy:
My dog has disappeared. I only looked away for a second, but then he was gone. Can you find my Jabby? It would be easy for you, right?
YES/NO (can repeat for both)
If YES
Boy:
Really? Then, um.. um I?ll wait for you here. Thank you.
Boy:
Have you found Jabby? ...Oh... not yet.
If NO
Boy:
Oh, you can?t...
Church
Priest:
If you need anything from our humble church, just bespeak me.
Priest:
This is the holy church of Desire. All of Zod?s children are welcome here. What is it that you seek?
Francis:
The cave-in at the mine was caused by the anger of the gods at the soldiers? trespassing of its sacred environs, the sky turned black as the sun vanished and then we knew we would be punished for the violation of the mine. We did not learn our lesson the first time, when we mined for gold.
Masle:
Many people lost their lives while they were working in Desire Mine a long time ago. Our priest works very hard to comfort the spirits of the departed.
Renard:
The mountain in the back of the mine is called Godspeak. It is a very sacred place. They say that an ancient culture used the mountain as a place of worship. No one should ever violate that shrine.
Marcia:
The reason why this village has become desolate is because of human greed. The miners kept digging in search of wealth until they penetrated into the shrine beyond. Suddenly, the sky blackened with seeming rage, and the earth split asunder, forcing them to close the mine.
Desire Village Pub
Owner:
Welcome! We have great food and drinks here. Please relax and enjoy yourserselves. You must be travelers who got stuck here because they closed the road to Enrich. Well, there isn't anything to be done about it until they reopen the gate.
Owner:
You must be mercenaries, right? And you look quite skilled. I can tell, it's my business to... Hey! Don't look at me like that. If you don't want to talk about it, say so. Here, have one on the house.
Owner:
There are some other mercenaries in here too, over there in the back.
Owner:
The woman is a knight, and the other is a dragon warrior. I heard that they were hired by sage Sabato to come out and join this expedition. They don't seem to now what to do next,Br>now that they've lost that outlaw in the cave-in and the border's been closed down.
Owner:
I remember hearing tales about a skilled team of mercenaries consisting of a princess and a dragon... could it be them? Nah... couldn't be. What would possibly interest a team like that into coming to a backwater place like this?
Owner:
While the Enrich army was here, business was almost as good as in the old days. Now things are back to my small group of regular customers. Why don't you stay here in the village, at least until the gate opens? You won't find better service anywhere.
if you ring the Front Bell
The innkeeper walks down the stairs
Innkeeper:
Are you looking for a room? I'm sorry, but the rooms are not ready yet. Please come back in a little while. The Innkeeper walks back up the stairs.
Digo:
This village used to be so lively when there was gold here. Such a long time ago... Now it's almost empty.
Hans:
The skill of the blacksmith in this village won me over so I decided to work here. I often visit him whenever I find mithril ore. He makes very fine equipment. However, since they closed the border, I can't conduct my business. What am I to do?
Halfling:
I've got to get to Enrich! If the border gate is closed I could try going through the forest... although I know it's dangerous...
Halfling:
You seem to have a reason to go too, right? Would you like to go with me? After all, there is safety in numbers.
YES/NO
If YES
Halfling:
I thought you would say so. You're staying here, aren't you? I'll visit your room tonight and we'll make plans then.
Halfling:
I'll visit your room tonight to discuss the details.
If NO
Halfling:
You'll turn me down without even knowing my plan? Won't you at least hear me out?
YES/NO
If YES
Halfling:
I thought you would say so. You're staying here, aren't you? I'll visit your room tonight and we'll make plans then.
Halfling:
I'll visit your room tonight to discuss the details.
If NO
Halfling:
Not very trusting are you? Well then, I won't ask you again.
Halfling:
What do you want? I don't have anything else to say to you, so leave me alone.
Basso:
We traveled all the way to this backwater village on the advice of Sabato, the sage of Enrich Castle. We were told that if we met with "Rodi", at the Godspeak, we would find what we were looking for, only to find he died in a cave in. Now, we may never know what he meant by that.
Lisa:
Are you looking for someone to have a drink with? I'm not that kind of woman... Little boys aren't my style.
Basso:
Hahaha. You're wasting your time. The only thing that will turn her head is the strong, strapping warrior type.
Desire Village
The team starts to walk away from the pub.
Basso:
Rodi!
Lisa and Basso are near the door of the pub.
Basso:
So it is you, Rodi! We thought that you had died in that cave-in, but you match the description given to us perfectly.
Rodi:
I guess you're right... I am alive. Now that you know this, what are you going to do about it?
Lisa:
Indeed, what should we do? What's your opinion, Basso?
Basso:
First, we should use him to get what we are searching for in the Godspeak, then... Then we can turn Rodi in at the castle and claim the bounty to supply our travel needs. How about that?
Lisa:
Hmm... That doesn't sound like a bad plan at all.
Melody:
Look Arthur, I've got a bad feeling about this. They've ignored us completely. Do you think we can beat them? Or are they too powerful?
Arthur:
.......
Basso:
Well, it doesn't look like we have much of a choice...
Melody:
But that's... We haven't had a chance to heal up yet!
Village Chief:
What are you doing?
The village chief has came from near the church.
Village Chief:
Ahh, a little inter-mercenary fight, eh? But that will cause problems for our village, and that I will not allow. We value peace here.
Basso:
Wha... what do you mean? We weren't going to...
Village Chief:
No matter what name you want to give it, please do not disturb the peace here.
Lisa:
Well, putting it that way does put a cramp in our style. So what do YOU suggest we do?
Village Chief:
No matter who wins the 'contest', afterwards if you both remain in this willage, you will run into each other again. And then the cycle will repeat itself. So don't start.
Basso:
Then we should just do the job right the first time, right? Then you won't have that problem!
Village Chief:
You're quite the argumentative and dangerous individual, aren't you? I repeat - Do not fight in this village. Wait at least until the border gates open.
Lisa:
All right, you win. We will obey your wishes and wait until the gates open to... resolve our differences.
Basso:
What? Are you sure? If we let him go now...
Lisa:
As long as all of us are stuck in this village, there's no need to make our stay any less comfortable than it is now.
Basso:
I guess... I understand that... but it really pains me to let him go like this...
Lisa:
It's only until the gate opens. And it's not as if they can go anywhere either, can you, my play-fellows?
Basso:
Well... I guess you're right.
Basso:
We'll let you go for now. However, I look forward to when the gate opens!
Lisa:
Well, until next time.
Lisa and Basso go back inside the pub.
Melody:
They look pretty tough... I would like to avoid fighting with them if we could.
Rodi:
Yeah. Me too. They are definitely tough customers. We must do something before the gate opens.
Desire Village Pub
Basso:
We gave our word to not fight while we're here, but it sticks in my craw! Having our target right in front of us, yet we can't do anything about it! Get out of my sight!
Lisa:
You're Arthur... Your reputation precedes you. I hear you are an excellent mercenary from around here. We were interrupted earlier, but I am looking forward to crossing swords with you.
If you ring the Front Bell
Innkeeper:
Hello. Welcome to the Desire Village inn! Our rate is 7 gold coins per person so the total is 21 gold coins. Do you want to stay?
YES/NO (can repeat for no)
If YES
Innkeeper:
Please enjoy your stay here.
If NO
Innkeeper:
Oh... you don't want to stay. Please come by again...

if you refused the Halfling's offer
The Halfling appears.
Halfling:
Although you turned me down earlier, I'd really like you to hear me out, so I came anyway.
Rodi:
Arthur turned you down before... Take a hike, we're notinterested.
Halfling:
Hey, wait a minute! I saw you arguing with those other mercenaries in the pub earlier. If you end up fighting with them, someone will get hurt. Seriously hurt. Probably you. You must want to leave this vilage before that happens, right?
Melody:
......
if you accepted the Halfling's offer
The Halfling appears.
Halfling:
Here I am, as I promised. Are you ready to hear me out?
Halfling:
I don't know if anybody's listening in, so I'll be brief.
Halfling:
It's going to be too obvious if we leave the village together. So we'd best split up. Why don't you leave and head for the forest first. I'll follow shortly thereafter and catch uo with you.
Melody:
Do you trust him enough to follow his instructions?
YES/NO
If YES
Halfling:
So... you'll trust me. Good. I guess you also would rather be going to Enrich than waiting for the border to open.
If NO
Halfling:
Even if what I have to say sounds suspicious, I tell you that you cannot get to Enrich unless you do as I say. If you choose not to go through the forest, that's your business, but than you'll have to wait until the gate opens to leave.
Halfling:
Anyway, if you wish to get to Enrich, take my advice and go through the forest. Oh, and if we can't find each other, then let's meet at the graveyard deep inside. OK?
YES/NO (automatic repeat if no)
If YES
The halfling leaves.
