Shining Force III Scenario 1: God Warrior of the Kingdom
Chapter 1: Nightmare in the Floating City of Saraband
Balsamo HQ
Script typed up by: Lineage
Headquarters
Dantares:
My first impression of the city of Saraband... it's more beautiful and extravagant than I was told. However, even so... I still like Aspia and Flagard much better.
Masqurin:
As a city floating on the sea, Saraband is a technological wonder! As a country, it's quite paltry... Even so, it's making a lot of money from both Aspia and Destonia... It's as if it was built out of money!
Grace:
The Republic and the Empire gathered here dislike each other... I wonder if the conference will end quietly...
Saraband, East District
Left Guard:
Yes sir... All is well. Nothing suspicious to report. Since everything seems so peaceful, can I go with you into town?
Begin choice options
No
Left Guard:
I thought so... If you said yes, and Lord Tybalt found out, you would surely be reprimanded.
Yes
Left Guard:
Lord Synbious, you are too kind. But... I really shouldn't go since Lord Brutus is still here.
End choice options
Right Guard:
Are you going out, Lord Synbios? Ah, and everyone is with you! That's great! I'm envious. This is my first time in Saraband, and I too would like to look around. Please take me with you next time.
Saraband Guard 1:
Since the heads of the Empire and the Republic are meeting, our duty as Saraband Guards is vital. If ill-tempered nobles bump into each other, a war could break out. We can't let our guard down at all.
Saraband Guard 1:
Is the person accompanying you the great Dantares from Flagard? His skill with a lance is well known even in the Empire. I'm surprised to see you attending the conference, and I'm deeply honored to meet you.
Saraband Guard 1:
Because of its key strategic value, the Empire used the internal turmoil in Barrand as an excuse for their invasion. We hope the peace process succeeds, and the Barrand conflict won't result in a full scale war.
Garosh:
I was born in a poor village in the Republic. I ran away from there with my brothers in search for a better life and joined the national guard unit of Saraband, I'm now healthy, wealthy and happy.
Garosh's Girlfriend:
He's been taking care of his doves all day. We're supposed to go out on a date when he finishes. His doves are amazingly smart, and useful too. We can send messages to far off friends with them.
Hayward:
I roamed the world as a mercenary searching for a master archer, and ended up here in Saraband. I liked it so much, I joined the Bridge Guards. However, I'm thinking about moving on again.
Flower Girl:
Welcome! Can I interest you in any flowers?
Begin choice options
No
Flower Girl:
Most men think more about swords and spears than flowers and beauty. You should stop and spend some time admiring the flowers, even during battle. It may prove useful...
Yes
Flower Girl:
Oh, you already have flowers. Wait a minute... those look like... the ones that I picked this morning.
End choice options
Using Flower
Flower Girl:
I sold these flowers to a monk... I guess he gave them to you. Please take good care of them.
Old Man:
Hey young man, do you like Saraband?
Begin choice options
No
Old Man:
... What?!? Blasphemy! If you can't comprehend the greatness that is Saraband, you know nothing! Nothing!
Yes
Old Man:
I thought so... It's quite a sight, isn't it? Because the wisdom and foresight of Governor Garvin, Saraband's leader, the area is flourishing. He established Saraband as a neutral trading zone.
End choice options
Man:
Saraband is made up of four districts. Two Residential Districts, the Business District in the middle, and tje Government district to the south. The steam plants allow it to travel over the sea. Can you imagine that? It's unlike any other!
Man:
The elegant business facility in the center district represents the face of this modern city, Saraband. The Republicans and Imperial camps in the east and western districts were originally citizen's homes.
Old Woman:
Saraband became a permanent neutral country because the Emperor Domaric permitted it. However, I wonder why he allows a country like this to exist? It's considered to be one of the seven wonders of this continent.
Barracks
Man:
Seeing a young soldier reminds me of the era before the Republic separated from the Empire. When Domaric came to power, policies to divide the nobility from the middle class were passed, and we're living in the results.
Kid:
My sister is spending time with her boyfriend, Garosh, somewhere... Garosh has two brothers, one is the commander of the guarding unit, and his younger brother is in the Republican army. I'm told he's assigned to the countryside.
Woman:
You were born after the Republic was founded, weren't you?
Begin choice options
No
Woman:
Don't try to kid an old woman like me. It's been well over 20 years since the Independence war of the Republic. You can't be that old... Have that many years passed by? I keep getting older and older... How depressing...
End choice options
Left Saraband Soldier:
Before the peace conference, we agreed to equip only light weapons, but... I feel kind of nervous... What do you think?
Right Saraband Soldier:
Destonia really needs Saraband, so no matter how long the conference remains, there's no way to compromise. There's no reason why the Emperor should bring his three sons here... They must've had nothing better to do...
NW Saraband Soldier:
The soldier's dormitory in the east district of Saraband houses the city guard units. The personal guards' dormitory is in the west. They are the elite soldiers, but everyone there is a jerk. If you meet them... you'll understand.
Moving Saraband Soldier:
I recommend not going too close to the west district of Saraband. This is not very well known in the Republic, but there are far more Imperial soldiers there than there are Republican soldiers in Saraband.
House Near Republican Camp
Man:
Why doesn't anyone care how the steam engine was invented?!? Curiosity is the driving force behind the development of technology and civilization. Otherwise, humans are no better than apes... Don't you agree with me?
Kid:
My papa was a scientist under Governor Garvin. He created the power that allows Saraband to move. Others, in the town of Quonus, are supposedly researching armor powered by steam... I don't believe that at all.
Woman:
My husband spends all his time on his research in the palace. Since access to the palace is restricted, due to the conference, I thought I'd get to spend some time with him... But all he does is read books...
Bookshelf:
Harnessing the power of steam! The pressure caused by evaporating water can be utilized to change our entire life!
House 2
Woman:
My husband was recruited by the Saraband army because he's a great swordman. Usually, military men have high places in society, but merchants have great power here. I don't know if I should be happy... or sad...
Kid:
My father is a great military man, so he wants me to become strong too. But I don't want to be just strong... I want to be adept in mathematics, and become a great merchant. I wonder what he'll say if I tell him...
Gal:
I want to marry a man just like my father. My mother says to marry a merchant! She says a military man is good... However, a merchant will make lots of money and would make me happy. I still think a strong man looks cool!
Bookshelf:
Help each other on the battlefield! You will forge relationships which will enhance your fighting ability.
House 3
Girl:
The Empire pushed policies based on feudalism, and stole the dreams from us common people. The Republic, which is based on the equality, is plagued with bidgetaru hardships. Therefore, Saraband really is the ideal nation.
Young Man:
Emperor Domaric of the Empire is visiting here now... I plan to stay in my house until he leaves. He's scary!
Bookshelf:
National Bestseller A fighting Method For Any Man! Written by the scholars of Saraband. Pick any foe who is tired from fighting another strong man, and never face the enemy alone.
House 4
Girl:
Did you see the princes of the Empire?
Begin choice options
No
Girl:
I sneaked out to go see the princes, even though my mother-in-law disapproved... I was speechless when I saw them... They're so handsome... Just like I imagined. Oh... I think I married too soon.
Yes
Girl:
The youngest prince, Medion is kind and extremely attractive. The eldest, Mageron, is the spoiled one, and Arrawnt is down right strange. If Mageron or Arrawnt takes over the Empire, the country will crumble...
End choice options
Woman:
I saw my daughter-in-law sneak off to go see those princes. I don't know why she can't stay home while my son's at work. But... if I were younger, I would fantasize about the princes too... Especially the youngest one...
Bookshelf:
Victory begins with the weapons you choose! Each person is most suited to a certain style of weapon. Figure out what type of weapon it is, and continue to fight with it.
House 5
Woman:
Do you know about the apartments on the east and the west?
Begin choice options
No
Woman:
Land in Saraband is very scarce, so the apartments are a really good idea. Eventually, when they want to start a family, they are allowed to live in a house like this. No one complains about the system.
End choice options
Bookshelf:
Neutral Cities Are The Gateway To A New Era! Written by Garvin. Adopting both ideologies of the Empire and the Republic, we established a place as the trading middle point...
House 6
Gal:
My papa is a great merchant! He's the favorite of Governor Garvin. Isn't that great? Merchants rule!
Old Man:
The Republic is a conglomerate of small territories, each with its own agenda. Compared to that, this place is quite simple. The better you are in business, the more say you have. That's why this is such a great place!
Old Woman:
I wanted our son to join the military. We objected to him becoming a merchant... When he ran away saying he would become a merchant, we lost much face. However, now our so is quite successful. We're very proud.
Bookshelf:
Benefits of having a mobile city! A study looking into the advantages of cities able to move freely. A city that is mobile would not be affected by seasonal changes, and would always experience perfect weather.
Saraband Central District
Middle aged man by the trading center:
Have you seen the trading center?
Begin choice options
No
Middle aged man by the trading center:
Usually, the area is packed, but recently the merchants stopped coming. Negotiation to levy Barrand and peace talks... Merchants are jumping the gun and assume war's going to break out.
Yes
Middle aged man by the trading center:
I have been a merchant for ages, but I can't recall the last time the trading center was so empty. If the city was between ports, I'd understand... But we're docked! This conference is quite bothersome.
End choice options
Old Man:
Nobody knows what Governor Garvin is thinking, but the people of Saraband support the Republican cause.
Young Man:
The Governor prohibited the sales of weapons during the peace conference, so the weapons business is hurting pretty badly. I went to the weapons store to look around and it's dead. The whole sales floor was empty.
Woman with baby:
Since King Benetram is such a freat strategist, the Empire is taking every precaution. Some soldiers are acting quite aggressively, saying they should make the first move. You'd better watch out for yourself too.
Girl:
Have you been to the tools shop?
Begin choice options
No
Girl:
You'll be disappointed if you go. Usually they have a fine selection, but now they are very limited in their merchandise. I needed a new set of sheets too...
Yes
Girl:
They're not well stocked at all. Takes all the fun out of shopping. Once the peace conference is over, they'll have so much stock, it'll be like a whole new store.
End choice options
Old Woman:
Whenever young Imperial soldiers are off duty, they just loaf in the bar from morning to night. Slackers! They need to get a life! On the other hand, they're easy going and fun loving people.
Man:
The King of the Assembly, Benetram, is a great strategist and general. No way he'll give up Barrand so easily. He must have some secret plan... Whatever it is, I'm sure that it must be a good one...
Middle aged man by the port:
Arrrgggh, I don't know what I'm going to do! Because of the conference, our sales have been dismal. If all this stuff isn't resolved soon, all my food and goods for sale will rot! Sob!! My poor food...
Left Saraband guard:
Until the peace conference is all finished, we cannot allow anyone to pass through here unless they have a special permit. Aren't you from the Republic? I really would suggest you think again...
Right Saraband guard:
Believe me, I understand. You want to go out to Balsamo, kick butt and take names... If the Republic really wants to liberate Barrand, talking won't do any good. You'll have to find another way.
Centaur by the laundry (Arthur):
I'm not a coward! I just got sick of making a living by killing people all the time. I'm making ends meet by doing laundry, and I find that it's not a bad alternative. Do you agree?
Begin choice options
No
Centaur by the laundry (Arthur):
HAH! Knowing that you're still a young pup, it is understandable that you say so. However, I wonder if you can still say so after fighting soldiers and monsters for years. Someday, I'd like your answer again.
Yes
Centaur by the laundry (Arthur):
Thanks for agreeing! However, you haven't had nearly enough battle experience to truly understand... I look forward to your answer after many more battles. Tell me again the next time we meet.
End choice options
Saraband guard by the gate to eastern district:
If you wish to return to the Republican camp, please go through the Business District. The route here is closed.
Saraband guard by the gate to western district:
Just ahead is the Western Residential district of Saraband. Are you heading there?
Begin choice options
No
Saraband guard by the gate to western district:
Regardless, use of this pathway is limited to the few permitted by the district of the Governor General.
Yes
Saraband guard by the gate to western district:
The Western Residential District is designated as the Imperial camp. Since you're Republicans, I recommend that you don't enter. Things could get ugly if you cross a zealous knight or bump into an ill-tempered noble.
End choice options
Saraband guard by the gate to government district:
This is the Government District. Do you have any business here?
Begin choice options
No
Saraband guard by the gate to government district:
The general public may not enter the Government District. If you have no business here... Please move along.
Yes
Saraband guard by the gate to government district:
The peace conference is in session at this very moment. Ministers from both countries have dropped by to see Governor Garvin, but he's much too busy. So, take any ideas or opinions to the conference itself...
End choice options
Trading Center
Left standing middle aged man:
I thought I'd do some business in Balsamo, but it turned out not to be such a good place. The mood and number of troops from both countries, waiting to see where the conference leads, can trigger a battle there anytime.
Right standing middle aged man:
How could this conference develop into a war? Please tell me that such a thing isn't happening... A war would not only send us into poverty, funding for internal security would thin out, and bandits would become more active.
Moving middle aged man:
Did you hear about what's going on in Balsamo? The town was filled with masked monks... I wonder why...?
Young Woman:
This is the trading post of Saraband. All merchants must check in here to import or export goods from Saraband.
Bookshelf:
Opportunity arrives when war breaks out! Massive amounts of goods will be consumed, which is good for merchants.
Tool Shop
Tool seller:
(Selling)

I'm very sorry. The Mayor has placed a moratorium on all the purchasing.
Weapon Shop
Weapon seller:
When will the peace conference end? I hear that it's going to drag on for a while. It's getting on my nerves!
Church
Priest:
Since there is the absolute god, Elbesem, why are other religious sect still allowed to exist? Back when religion influenced politics, I admit that their existence prevented some religious extremes, but...
Man:
Please make my wish come true. Please make my business successful, and make me rich! Amen. Elbesem is a guardian deity, you say? Oh yes, yes, I know that. However, he is said to be omnipotent and all-knowing, so I figured he would grant my wish for prosperity. That's what I believe. Yes indeed...
Middle-aged man:
Everyone is praying for peace, but... wartime is when we merchants prosper. Which to pray for... hmmm.
Girl:
Money, money, money... That's all everyone talks about. I guess it's inevitable, since Saraband is based on trading, but... We seem to be rich, but have nothing else. I feel quite empty.
Woman:
Young man... It is a good thing to pray for peace, but... Sometimes peace doesn't come simply by praying for it. In such times, we must ask our soldiers to fight for us so that they can win peace.
Tavern
Left Centaur:
Our job is to report to Railhead about deals that are made at the trading center. However, since there have been no deals taking place, we've been hanging around, killing time all day.
Right Centaur:
We have to be in shape to do our jobs, and when we just sit around and drink, that's bad for the legs. So we decided to run to Balsamo, and there we saw a lot of strange masked monks. Supposedly, they're praying for the conference's success.
Bartender:
Do you find that many women are attracted to you?
Begin choice options
No
Bartender:
What? How strange... How can a good looking, upstanding guy like you not be popular? You're handsome, have a good job... The girls must be too shy to make advances toward you... That's what I think, anyway.
Yes
Bartender:
I thought so... They say looks aren't the first thing they look for in a man, but most girls don't even want to get to know me... Maybe it's because I hang around here all day... I still envy a popular guy like you.
End choice options
Waitress:
Hello, stranger! Well well... I didn't know the Republic had any cuties like you in service... You're just my type... Why don't you come back here later tonight... If you do... wink ... You won't regret it.
Left middle-aged man:
We are constantly working... So, it's actually nice to relax like this to drink and mingle.
Right middle-aged man:
Rumor has it, the Republic's planning to start a riot in Saraband since the conference isn't going too well... People expect that plans like that are in the works, since King Benetram is a great strategist, but a war may...
Solitary soldier:
Oh... You're from the Republic. You've got guts to talk to an Imperial soldier. I think it's stupid to start fighting in a bar. Prince Mageron is a very good person. If we do our job, our personal lives are our own.
Left soldier:
My master, Prince Arrawnt, is tense and nervous all the time... and don't get me started on his attendant, General Crewart... He's got personality problems! I wish I could transfer to Prince Medion's army.
Right soldier:
The attendant of Prince Mageron is the beautiful general, Spiriel. Everyone in the Empire admires her in some way. As well as her beauty, her ability to fight and commanding skills are great. All the Imperial generals respect her.
Girl:
Oh, you're from the Republic... You seemed quite diligent, but you're here during the day to drink... If you start drinking all day, you will end up like these guys here. I recommend you don't go down that road...
House
Bookshelf:
One way to break the morale of your enemies is to cut down their leader. Identify the enemy leader immediately.
Western District
Soldier 1:
This is the camp of the Imperial army! It's off-limits to weak Republican dogs like you! Don't you know that?
Begin choice options
No
Soldier 1:
You don't seem to quite understand the relationship between the Empire and the Republic. Both Barrand and all of the Republic used to be part of the Empire. When you defected, you basically took what belonged to us. That's why we can't forgive you.
Yes
Soldier 1:
Hah! I almost admire your attitude. But, if you bump into any other Imperial soldiers, they won't share the same opinion, and you're as good as dead. If you understand that, you'd better turn around. OK?
End choice options
Soldier 2:
King Benetram is a filthy swine, and I wouldn't put anything past him. If this peace conference fails, and he finds out that Emperor Domaric will not return Barrand... What ploy will he use next?
Soldier 3:
If I'm not mistaken, you're... Synbios. Aren't you the son of the ex-Imperial General Conrad? I heard that your father was greatly respected as a general of the Empire. He would have been better off staying there. I wonder why he defected?
Soldiers:
Stop, Republic soldiers!
Masqurin:
This is looking rather grim, Grace...
Rightmost soldier:
What's so grim about it, Republic soldiers?!
Grace:
I think... we've come to a bad place. I think we should... turn around now.
Leftmost soldier:
Oh no, wait a sec! You people must be spies... Do you think we would let go of spies so easily?
Left soldier:
You come to the Imperial stationing area and think you can get away with it? I think we need to beat some sense into your thick skulls.
Dantares:
Hey, I don't like your tone! Are you challenging us? You actually think that you're worthy enough to fight us...?
Right soldier:
HA! You think you can fight us on our own turf? And still win?
Dantares:
There's only one way to find out... Better get ready, you'll find out it's hard to win a battle when you've lost an arm, or two.
Grantack:
All right, hold it right there!
Dantares:
Oh ho! You must be Sir Campbell of the Empire and... I believe you are the Emperor's son, Prince...
Medion:
Yes, I'm Medion.
Campbell:
That gentleman over there is Sir Dantares. Some say he is even stronger than I.
Rightmost soldier:
Even stronger than Sir Campbell...?
Left soldier:
Boy, we chose a fine guy to pick a fight with...
Campbell:
I won't try to force you to stop... but if I were you... I woudn't fight him... So, what will you do? Well, it seems you have been quite rude to these people. I wonder if they will forgive you?
The soldiers are dismissed
Dantares:
Your timely arrival saved us some unpleasantness.
Campbell:
Don't mention it... I simply said that to spare a few Imperial soldiers' lives...
Synbios:
.......
Medion:
It is we, the Imperial army, who must apologize to you for acting so rudely.
Synbios:
.......
Grantack:
If we keep going on like this with the formalities, it'd take an eternity.
Campbell:
I saw you fight in the battle at the border awhile back, Sir Dantares. I don't look forward to facing you on the battlefield anytime soon.
Dantares:
I was about to say the same thing, Sir Campbell. Your repulation in battle preceeds you.
Campbell:
Is the person next to you, by any chance, Lord Synbios? The son of Lord Conrad, the great general?
Synbios:
.......
Medion:
Your father is still considered a hero in the Empire. So, you are his son...
Dantares:
Either way, it cannot be just a coincidence that we met like this in the Imperial district...
Grantack:
Coincidence... possibly... To tell you the truth, we are investigating the masked monks...
Grace:
Masked monks...?
Explosions
Synbios:
.......
Medion:
I see now... those explosives were for this occasion...
Grantack:
Well... that much is obvious... However... for what reason?
Campbell:
We don't know what these monks are after yet, but for the moment we should return to our respective camps and assess the damages.
Medion:
Lord Synbios, we must head back... The timing is unfortunate as I think we have much in common. Let us be sure to talk again.
Synbios:
.......
Dantares:
Let's hurry back to our camp, too.
Trying to go down further in western district
Dantares:
Let's stop gathering information for now and get back to the camp.
Soldier 1:
What... What is happening here...? I mustn't panic at a time like this... One wrong move, and I'll get hurt.
Soldier 2:
A... An attack... It is an enemy attack... My back has give out... I cannot move...
Soldier 3:
What, what, what??? The leaders of the Empire and the Republic are here! Where's the attack coming from? I see, it must be some third country. I must hurry back to my post. But, OUCH...! I sprained my ankle...
Saraband Center
Masked Monk (blue):
It seems Medion has given up.
Masked Monk (blue):
Because we detonated the explosive in time, he seems to have returned to his lodgings.
Masqurin:
What's up with that suspicious monk with the mask!?
Masked Monk (blue):
You're not Medion and his friends, you are swine from the Republic!
Dantares:
It seems that these are the ones Medion was chasing after.
Synbios:
.......
Masked Monk (blue):
Hah! Do you think you can fight me with that pitiful band? I'll cut you all to pieces!
Advice
Dantares:
They have the edge in numbers, but if we play it right, we can take them. We can overcome them, Synbios.
After the battle
Masqurin:
The masked monks, in reality, are just a bunch of murderers...
Dantares:
These 'monks' and the troubles... they seem somehow related. In any case, let's get back to our lodge.
Saraband Center
Young Woman:
Oh...Excuse me...Did you want something from the trade center? Well.. We have closed for the day... Re-really! I'm not lying! Please, please come again some other time. When it's safer...
Girl (tool shop):
Did a stray bullet hit you...? If that's not the case, quit roaming around and go back to your camp!
Old man:
Young people nowadays... At the first explosion, they ran for their lives and left us behind!
Old woman:
Look... The barrels and things over there... They suddenly exploded! What is... going on here?
Man (weapon shop):
This is why I was against this. All the powerful weapons are locked away. How can we fight against this attack?
Man:
We are just civilians... We surrender, we surrender, please... Please spare our lives! I beg of you!
Bartender:
Just because you order me to open up this place, don't expect me to just say "yes sir" and open it! If you try to force me to open it, I'll force you right back out with your tail between your legs!
Left guard:
Hmmm... What is the purpose of the attack... Maybe it's an attempt on the lives of both heads of state! If that's the case, I must not leave my post... no matter what happens!
Right guard:
I don't know who's behind this, but it's pretty stupid of them to attack Saraband. The conversion to a floating city was not just to have the convinience of movement, but also to act as a marine fortress!
Saraband guard guarding gate to eastern district:
This is too ridiculous to be true... How could Saraband be under attack? I must be dreaming!
Saraband guard to the gate to western district:
What do you want at a time like this! I've told you over and over that I cannot let you pass through here. More importantly, what's with these attacks? Why would anyone be angry with Saraband? Well, I can think of several reasons...
Saraband guard to the gate to government district:
Wow... Oh no... Enemy attacks... but... I'll never run! I'll protect the Governor General's Office.
Church
Priest:
Because we have been praying to Elbesem, Saraaband will come out of this absolutely fine. I'm not scared! What... I'm trembling? Uhhh... It's kinda chilly in here, don't you think?
Man:
You're telling me now is the time to go make money? Uh, yeah... I will in a short while. But I think I will pray for safekeeping first.
Middle-aged man:
What's going on outside? Do you think it could be my fault, since I was confused whether to wish for a successful treaty or for war?
Girl:
What... What was that loud noise...? Has the war, by any chance, started?
Woman:
Be at peace. A church is a sanctuary. Even if a war broke out, no one would attack here... right?
Eastern District
Young Man:
Oh... I guess you want to go through here... I'm sorry, I'll get out your way. I'm sorry... I'm so scared... My legs are trembling, and I can't move. Could you take the road instead?
Going back to camp
Grace:
Head of the Assembly... King Benetram?
Dantares:
King Benetram, by any chance... is the person with you the Emperor Domaric...?
Domaric:
Indeed, I am Domaric... Are you not the knight, Dantares, who fought in the defeat of Campbell's army at the coast? That means this child next to you... would be the son of Conrad...
Dantares:
What is going on here? Please give me an answer, King Benetram!
Benetram:
Ha!
Domaric:
Are you saying... that you don't know of this infamous plan to return Barrand in exchange for my life? That no one knew of this? What a farce.
Synbios:
.......
Benetram:
Even if we release the Emperor now... It won't change a thing. The die is cast.
Dantares:
My lord... Please wait! Please release Emperor Domaric! I, Dantares, upon my oath as a knight, can not allow even you to abduct the Emperor!
Benetram:
Interesting... So you're saying you will cut me down if I try to leave with the Emperor? Oh my! The fierce, noble knight Dantares, is about to skewer me... Whatever will I do? What are you waiting for? Stop wasting my time! Hurry up and do it! Ah, so you've changed your mind... Then my business here is complete, and I'll be on my way!
Domaric:
So, that is how you intend to work this... Interesting little scene you've put on here.
Masqurin:
We can't just give up yet! King Benetram will be at the camp... We've got to try once more to talk some sense into him!
Grace:
Don't you think he was acting kind of strange? And why was the King with those monks? We must figure out the truth.
Headquarters
Dantares:
I cannot believe what King Benetram did to the Emperor, but since you saw it too, I wasn't just imagining things.
Masqurin:
What was with that explosion? All of a sudden, it went KABOOM! ... I think my heard skipped a few beats.
Grace:
This incident... I'm sure it was some group causing trouble. I wonder if it was possibly the work of those masked monks?
Trying to go further in Western district
Dantares:
If we waste any more time here, we will miss our chance to convince the King to change his plans. Let us hurry back to our camp.
Central District
Guard by the entrance to eastern district:
King Benetram of the Republic... That's not possible... That would be a tantamount to a declaration of war against us and the Empire.
Guard by the entrance to western district:
Masked...Masked monks! All of a sudden they've... The Emperor Domaric has been abducted!
Guard by the entrance to government district:
Guard by the entrance to Government district What a... craven act... To attack from behind... However, the person I saw from behind certainly was....
Republic Base
Tybalt:
You took your time, Synbios... With all the chaos outside, I was concerned that something had happened. What's wrong, Synbios? You look pale...
Benetram:
What is the matter, Synbios?
Masqurin:
Where is the Emperor Domaric...?
Edmund:
Did you say Emperor Domaric...?
Brutus:
What have you done!? Answer me, Benetram!!!
Benetram:
What are you talking about, Brutus?
Brutus:
You have attacked Saraband! And on top of that... What have you done with the Emperor Domaric?!? The Governor General's office is up in arms!
Edmund:
Masqurin also asked the same thing. What is going on with the Emperor?
Grace:
We all... saw it... king Benetram abducted the Emperor Domaric and took him away to the camp!
Benetram:
What... When... did you see that?
Grace:
It was just a couple of minutes ago...
Brutus:
Do you see, Benetram...? There is a Republican witness. Do you still want to play innocent?
Tybalt:
But Benetram was here! He returned quite a while ago, saying that the Emperor did not show up.
Dantares:
However, we really did see it... There's no doubt, it was King Benetram...
Benetram:
So you saw... Are you sure... that it was me?
Tybalt:
That's right! There is another witness to Benetram's doings! Edmund was with him as well.
Edmund:
Indeed, I was with King Benetram. I was with him the whole time. He never left my sight. Benetram is telling the truth... Domaric did not show up at the conference room. He most certainly did not abduct him.
Brutus:
Edmund is a man of few words, but... he is a trustworthy general who would not lie. So... what IS going on here?
Tybalt:
Then, perhaps Synbios saw both Benetram AND Edmund abducting the Emperor!
Synbios:
.......
Dantares:
General Edmund was not there. Instead of him... He was with a group of masked monks when he came out from the Governor General's office...
Grace:
Actually... during the chaos of the attack... We came across a group of those masked monks.
Masqurin:
They attacked us but... it was nothing we couldn't handle. They were quite vicious... Especially for monks.
Tybalt:
Are they... by any chance...
Dantares:
We did not make the connection back then, but... I believe they are the masked pagan worshipers of Balsamo.
Benetram:
It begins to make sense...
Brutus:
Do you know something about this, Benetram? Now that I think about it, you were curious about these monks from the very beginning... What is going on?
Benetram:
It's only speculation, but... It seems the perpetrators want me and the Republic to take the blame for this crime.
Dantares:
Even while we try to clear ourselves... the Imperial army just might try to wipe us out altogether...
Benetram:
Since this 'incident' happened in the neutral country of Saraband, their forces will also become our enemies.
Edmund:
If we stay in Saraband, we are surrounded by enemies... If we go outside, the Imperial territories are filled with enemies... If we must fight, we should move forward and not look back.
Brutus:
While you make your escape, I shall go to Governor General Garvin, and tell him the truth.
Tybalt:
As you are on good terms with Garvin, your pleas might indeed be helpful.
Benetram:
Trade with Saraband is vital to our country. We must persuade Governor Garvin of our innocence. Brutus... Can I rely on you?
Tybalt:
We'll have to forget about the Barrand peace negotiations for the time being... Still, it will not be easy to escape...
Benetram:
We must not let the Imperial army all work together. We will only find a viable route if we split them up.
Edmund:
I volunteer my forces to be used as a decoy. While my army creates a diversion for the Imperial army, you can leave Saraband with Synbios' forces, and return to Aspinia.
Dantares:
General Edmund, but that could be...
Tybalt:
Dantares is correct, Edmund. If you do that... you will be throwing away your life.
Edmund:
But if I do not, it won't be just me but ALL of us...
Tybalt:
Therefore, I will join my forces with yours! I cannot stand the Imperial army... If Edmund fights alongside me, I can get my revenge against Destonia!
Benetram:
Tybalt... Edmund...
Tybalt:
I knew something like this would happen, so I was readty with a skiff. Let's go to the shore and start some trouble!
Benetram:
Your lives are important... Please, try not to waste them.
Brutus:
What are you doing, Benetram? You're under suspicion for all of this! You must get out of here quickly! Edmund and Tybalt's armies will be moving very shortly. Don't waste their sacrifice!
Benetram:
Let us, too, get moving... However... not to run away... We are going to get to the botton of this, and clear everyone's reputation. I didn't bring you here for this, but... I know, this is a great responsibility with no warning... I'm relying on you... Synbios.
Synbios:
.......
Brutus:
I'll deal with things here... Take good care of Benetram.
Going elsewhere
Dantares:
In order to take advantage of the decoy generated by General Edmund and the others, we must hurry back to the camp, by way of the docking pier.
Pier
Guard:
Ugh... damn you, Benetram...Ugh... damn you, Benetram...
Dantares:
That was close. We almost had to fight the bridge guards of Saraband. Who got here first?
Benetram:
By any reckoning, this is a sad state of affairs.
Hayward:
Huh??? King Benetram...? If that's you, and you're here, then... Who is that other Benetram?
Masked Monk (red):
If you have no wish for corpses to clutter up the landscape, you will move aside and leave us alone. It will also be much better for your health.
Right guard:
We cannot allow that. The affairs of Saraband will be resolved by Saraband's soldiers, even if it costs us our lives!
Masked Monk (red):
Heh heh heh... I understand. You will regret disobeying King Benetram as I put you to death.
Domaric:
So... you will... continue this murderous rampage...?
Masked Monk (red):
I am surprised to hear the 'Lord of Massacres' Emperor Domaric would be so compassionate. Well, in deference to Emperor Domaric's wishes, we will make your end swift and merciful.
Garosh:
Stop it... Ugh... Run away, my brother... Run!
Guard (Garosh's brother):
You.. You're still alive, Garosh!
Garosh:
I... I was only knocked unconscious. I'm all right... so, brother... run away from that monster!
Masked Monk (red):
Ha! Regrettably, your advice comes a bit late.
Guards:
Noooooo!
Garosh:
NO! My... my dear brother!
Benetram:
How sadistic....
Impostor:
My sources tell me the Republican army has escaped Saraband.
Masked Monk (red):
The main Republic force has deployed itself in the adjacent plains, and the battle rages on as we speak.
Impostor:
Benetram, however, is still alive... He used the bulk of his forces as a decoy... he is quite clever.
Hayward:
It seems the mystery is beginning to unravel.... That looks like Benetram up ahead, but why are there no Republic guards with him? There's something wrong here.
Impostor:
Now that this guard has seen through our ploy, we must silence him, along witht that Republican rabble.
Masked Monk (red):
Please hurry ahead with Domaric. I'll catch up with you once we have things in hand here.
Benetram:
They plan to kill the guard who saw through their plan, and us along with him. That guard is the only witness who can prove my innocence. We must do everything we can to protect him.
Dantares:
If anything happens to you, my Lord, our decoy forces will be risking their lives for nothing. Please leave this to us.
Benetram:
I understand... I'll stay out of your way and simply wish you luck.
During the battle

Advice

Benetram:
Synbios, that Saraband guard is a witness who can clear my name. Do everything you can to protect him.
Advice when either both Garosh and Hayward are rescued or dead
Benetram:
If you're unsure how to act, study your oppenent carefully. The flag mark indicates their leader.
The impostor leaves with Domaric
Impostor:
Listen up, you Republican buffoons. I'll take my leave with the Emperor now, your pathetic lives end here!
Domaric:
I see.... So that's how it is... So many hidden agendas... Both Benetram and even me, Domaric, are mere pawns in this twisted scheme...
Hayward is dead
Hayward:
I never thought... it would end like this.... I only wish I could have found a leader truly worthy of my trust...
Garosh is dead
Garosh:
Ugh... brother... I'm sorry... I couldn't tell the lieutenant... about the impostor.
Hayward is rescued
Hayward:
I'm a mercenary. and my name is Hayward.... I'm glad you came along to help when you did. I see the famous Sir Dantares is with you. Does that mean you are the army of the great Lord Conrad?
Benetram:
His son Synbios commands here. We are chasing those masked monks and their impostor.
Hayward:
To pursue such a powerful enemy... you seem to be at an obvious disadvantage in strength.
Synbios:
.......
Hayward:
Please, allow me to join your band! I've dreamed of fighting alongside a famous warrior like Sir Dantares.
Hayward the archer joins the force
Hayward:
Thank you! Thank you! No matter what happens, you won't regret this.
Garosh is rescued
Garosh:
You are members of the REAL Republican army? To impersonate King Benetram... and take the life of my brother.... I shall make them pay for this! I'll inform Governor Garvin of this, and dispel all the lies about you. Please go now, I'll catch up to you.
After the battle
If Garosh was rescued
Benetram:
That was quite a stiff fight... yet everyone acquitted themselves admirably.
Dantares:
In any case, Garosh is taking much too long. I wonder if he was able to clear our name...
Synbios:
.......
Benetram:
If we waste any more time, they'll have too much of a head start. We must leave at once for Balsamo!
Dantares:
I see... You're referring to the information from General Varlant about their base of operations? I understand. Let's go after them.
The battle is over before rescuing Garosh

Benetram:
That was quite a stiff fight... yet everyone acquitted themselves admirably.
Dantares:
But we were unable to save that guard. He was an important witness, who knew about both the impostor and the Emperor.
Synbios:
.......
Benetram:
Indeed... Synbios, they must be headed toward Balsamo. We must head after them! If we hurry, we can still catch them.
Saraband Center
Going elswhere
Benetram:
If we waste any time here... it will only allow them to get away. We must press on towards Balsamo!
Old man:
Have you heard the latest gossip? It seems that during the meeting, King Benetram slapped the Emperor Domaric!
Young man:
I umm... would, get out and fight... If only I had a weapon... I don't care if you don't believe me!
Woman with baby:
It seems the Imperial army found out the Republican army had landed via the pier. They're planning their response.
Girl:
I'm sure many are injured. I must go and tend their injuries. After all, they're fighting for the country.
Man:
Seeing someone from the Republic here makes me doubt the latest rumor. I heard that the Republican army attacked Saraband in full force, and used that momentum to advance to the capital of the Destonia Empire.
Old woman:
I heard that the shots fired were due to the two heads of state who decided to get in a fist fight.
Centaur by the laundry (Arthur):
I'm flabbergasted with the greed of merchants. They left right away, saying that war equals money.
Guard by the eastern gate:
Government and Eastern district pathways are closed. Try the Business district path to the Western District.
Guard by the western gate:

Guard by the government gate:
This is the Government district of Saraband. Access to this district is now prohibited, due to emergency.
Weapon seller:
I know you want to shop for weapons... but I don't have any that I can sell you right now. Those men from the Governor General's Office took them and hid them somewhere. I've been asking for them back, but...
Church
Priest:
I feel an evil influence behind all the riots. It is something opposing Elbesem... That is all my powers can tell me. I must train harder in the future...
Girl:
Have you looked around Saraband? All the merchants are gone! They are looking to get rich from the war, and so they went elsewhere!
Woman:
Many precious lives have been lost... I can only pray that all the poor souls can find peace in the heavens.
Bar
Bartender:
They say that a woman's heart is like autumn's weather. It changes so very quickly, and is unpredictable... Don't you understand what I'm saying? Oh well, you'll learn everything soon enough...
Waitress:
Oh... you did come back... But I heard that the Republic started the riot. I don't want to associate with you people.
Bartender:
As soon as the gun shots stopped, the merchants went away to do business, and the soldiers returned to their stations. Now there's no one left... We're open, but what for? Oh yeah... Why don't you stay and play with us?
Eastern District
Headquarters
Benetram:
Now that you've seen the impostor pretending to be me, my innocence is provem, at least to you.
Dantares:
Because of the impostor Benetram, we must flee from Saraband like dogs. Absolutely unbearable! Don't you agree with me, Lord Synbios? Let us get our revenge by exonerating ourselves.
Masqurin:
I've always had the impression that monks always help others. Those masked monks, however, are just big meanies!
Grace:
The fake Benetram and the monks fled by way of the docking pier... I wonder what they are plotting now?
Hayward:
I've traveled to Destonia and Saraband for jobs, never imagining I'd end up in the Republican army.

If Garosh is dead
Garosh's girlfriend:
No guards from the docking pier squad have returned. I believe Garosh is... dead. He asked me to do one thing if he died... To release all the doves, so they could fly free. Please come and see them off with me. Letters are attached to these doves. They will fly to Garosh's family and inform them of his death. SOB... Now that the doves are gone, I miss him even more. I promised him... I promised him I wouldn't cry no matter what happens, but I just... can't help it... sniff...
Old man:
Saraband was a neutral trading country. How could anyone turn this place into a battleground...Oh no, I'm not blaming you... Everyone says it was the Republic's doing, but I believe you guys aren't at fault.
Flower girl:
SOB... WEEP...Because of the fighting, many soldiers from Saraband were reported wounded or dead...
Man:
Why must people fight? Nobody really wins by fighting... How do you feel about that...
Young man:
Oh, this used to be such a beautiful city... It will take years before the beauty of Saraband is restored.
Old woman:
Oh no, the Republic has returned. Please spare my life... I'm begging you... Help me, Lord...

Man:
All the soldiers in the guarding squads who lived in this dormitory were fun and carefree. Now that all of them are gone... I don't think Saraband will ever be the same.

YAY! WHOO WHOO! Mister Garosh has returned! I'm so glad he's alive! I can now return everything he lent me when he left.

If Garosh is saved
Woman:
I heard that every soldier from this dormitory was killed... I'm glad to hear that Garosh managed to survive, even in the face of such tragic news. I couldn't bear seeing my daughter lose her sweetheart.
If Garosh is dead
Woman:
I heard that everyone is dead... I never thought that Garosh and his brothers would have... He was a good man. I can't bear seeing my daughter, who just lost her sweetheart, in pain. I can't do anything, but let time pass.
Inventor's House
Man:
While the shots were fired, I felt something evil... It felt like something from the past that none of us care to remember... Well, maybe a little different, but...
Woman:
Ever since the shots were fired, my husband has been trembling violently, non-stop. I was terrified too, but for god's sake, we were inside our house! Why'd I marry such a chicken?
Kid:
I'm not ashamed that daddy is timid. Brains are important to a scientist... He doesn't need to be a macho man.
House 2
Woman:
Is it true that the docking pier guard squad was annihilated?... if that's the case, my husband is... We'll be okay financially, but our son will have no role model growing up. Are you busy for the next 10 years?
Kid:
.sniff. ... That's why I told him, I'd rather have him be a merchant than a soldier. I'll never join the militia!
Gal:
.sob. ...I... loved my father very much... He disappeared fighting the Republic... Please bring him back!
House 3
Girl:
The attack must have been an attempt on the Emperor Domaric's life. The Empire keeps implementing useless policies, so the Emperor must have many enemies among the powerful aristocrats in the Empire.
Young man:
I was so shocked when the shots were fired, I just ran in my house and hid.
House 4
Girl:
I was trying to check if my husband is alive, and I heard an unbelievable rumor... They say the Emperor Domaric was abducted. If that's true, then something very big is happening.
Woman:
Our daughter-in-law was spreading a strange rumor... Something so huge couldn't have... It must be a mistake.
House 5
Woman:
This was the first time that a battle broke out in Saraband. I never understood why we had such a big army in a neutral country, I guess it wasn't a waste of time, after all.
House 6
Old woman:
Granpa is always pretending to be strong, but when a situation like this arises, he shows his true colors... No wonder our son didn't join the militia and became a merchant. I guess it's all in the genes.
Gal:
My papa... He went to the Business district and hasn't returned. I hope he's hiding in a safe place.
Old man:
You think that the fighting has ended? I don't think so... Those shots were just the beginning...
Outside
Masqurin:
I thought we'd run smack into an Imperial army out here, but it is quiet... eerily quiet...
Grace:
That's because General Tybalt and General Edmund are keeping the Imperials busy for a while.
Masqurin:
This isn't the only place that's quiet, Saraband is like a graveyard. Somehow... it makes me uneasy.
Dantares:
In any case, we should leave now... It's risky to travel in such a small band, and we have to return all the way back to the Republic...
Benetram:
As traveling to the Republic could be too dangerous, let us make for Railhead. That should be safer.
Synbios:
.......
Grace:
Have you prepared something for this circumstance, my lord?
Benetram:
I ordered General Produn to await us there. It would have been reckless coming to Saraband otherwise.
Masqurin:
Saraband is neutral, but floating in the middle of Imperial waters, it could be very dangerous.
Benetram:
We must head for Balsamo first. If we can rescue Emperor Domaric, we might get the peace process moving again.
Voice:
Hahaha... You think it will be just that easy?
Benetram:
Look there! He has Emperor Domaric! What have you done to him?!?
Masked Monk (red):
Domaric is just unconscious. With Imperial and Republican armies nearby, we can't risk having him causing a ruckus. We thought the battle had moved north, and that you were all dead. Our party must have been defeated. You seem dead set on coming after us. If that's the case... I shall help you achieve at least the 'dead' part...
Benetram:
While we dally with these monks, my impostor is escaping with Domaric! Stop them! Hurry, Synbios!
During the battle
Advice
Benetram:
The impostor is escaping to Balsamo! You can't let him get away, Synbios. Destroy the monk blocking our way!
The Impostor enters Balsamo
Impostor:
Ha! Synbios, Benetram, I will make it to Balsamo before you! If you want Emperor Domaric back, you will have to follow me there!
On the midway, trumpets blows
Benetram:
Eh? What's this?
Commander:
As excutors of the laws of Saraband we must depart at once to search for our allied nation's dignitary, Emperor Domaric, and bring the criminal King Benetram to justice! According to the bridge guardsman Garosh, King Benetram and the Republic are innocent... However, Governor Garvin rejects that. We must carry on, do our duty, and bring these kidnapers in!
Benetram:
A pursuit party from Saraband! Synbios, we must make for Balsamo, and stay ahead of them! Stick to terrain that is unsuitable for horsemen!
Advice
Benetram:
A swordsman against a knight on horseback doesn't have much of a chance.... Synbios, you must seek out advantages to use against your opponents.
Advice near Balsamo
Benetram:
If you get confused, take your time and inspect the opponents, Synbios. They may have more than one leader.
After the battle
Varlant:
That was quite a fight you put up, Synbios.
Dantares:
Well well, General Varlant... We thought you had gone north with Lord Tybalt to fight the Imperial army...
Varlant:
The fierce fighting against the Empire continues, and they are moving north as we speak. Lord Tybalt ordered me to come here and assist King Benetram in his escape. However, it seems that my help isn't needed.
Benetram:
Not so. There is an Imperial ship near Saraband with an army aboard. Sooner or later they will come ashore....
Varlant:
I see... Yes, just as you say, they could come ashore anytime.
Spiriel:
In order to guard Prince Mageron, we had to delay the deployment of our troops. But it seems we are not too late to be useful after all. You! I see you are a Republican general. Be a man and identify yourself instead of cowering in anonymity!
Varlant:
How dare you say that! I am General Varlant of Barrand! Tremble in fear before me!
Spiriel:
Ah, so you're Varlant... I had hoped to someday meed you on the field of battle, and find out if the rumors are true. Spiriel Battalion, form up for battle!
Crewart:
As always, your words and actions are at odds with your beauty, General Spiriel...
Spiriel:
Leash your wagging tongue, General Crewart, or I'll rip it out and feed it to my dogs!
Arrawnt:
It would appear she doesn't like you, Crewart.
Spiriel:
Prince Arrawnt...! I didn't know you were...
Mageron:
It is good to show Arrawnt respect, but he has some ulterior designs regarding you. You'd be wise to steer clear of him, Spiriel.
Arrawnt:
How can you say things like that about your dear little brother, Mageron?
Mageron:
I thought your troops were to have departed a while ago, Spiriel.
Spiriel:
We have a small problem in the form of a force from the Republic Prince Mageron.
Mageron:
Hmmm... Yes, indeed.... I see now. Spiriel... You'd prefer to crush the Republic over searching for my father, eh? I suppose that is acceptable. I assume they will not delay you for very long.
Crewart:
Prince Arrawnt... I, too, wish to leave some of my soldiers here.
Spiriel:
What...! How dare you, Crewart! Are you implying that you cannot trust me?
Crewart:
N-No! You misunderstand me, Spiriel! If you dispatch your men to the north, I shall send mine west, just in case they surprise us.
Spiriel:
Very well, I understand. I shall leave that to you.
Arrawnt:
All right then. Brother, Spiriel, I'll go ahead and depart first.
Mageron:
Spiriel, I shall leave as well. No matter what happens, don't let your guard down.
Spiriel:
Here we are, General Varlant.... We are on even turf now. Now we shall both get our wish....
Varlant:
Now, here is our chance, Synbios. Take care of King Benetram.
Dantares:
While General Varlant is fighting, let us rescue Emperor Domaric.
Benetram:
Crewart's soldiers must be heading this way as we speak. We must find the Emperor before they get here.
Balsamo
Dantares:
Did you see that, Lord Synbis...? Monks from that evil cult passed in front of us so arrogantly, as if we don't even exist!
Benetram:
Well, that happens, Dantares. Many of them are staying here in Balsamo, praying for the conference's success.
Synbios:
......
Dantares:
They've caused ys so much trouble... and they're praying for peace...
Benetram:
Go, Synbios. I'm relying on you. Find Emperor Domaric before they escape from here.
Town of Balsamo
Moving monk on the right:
What? Why those suspicious looks...? Do you have a problem with our sect? Do you wish to suppress our religion? In this country, Emperor Domaric has guaranteed the freedom of religion... We won't allow you to make us leave!
Old man:
I've told you youngsters several times! Both countries will never make peace. This conference was destined to fail! Republican lands were once Imperial lands, and Domaric wanted them back! Domaric hoped to annex the Republic.
Young man:
You must be Republican soldiers... I'm worried... You must run. You shouldn't stay here. Republican and Imperial armies, here for the conference, started fighting, so I don't feel this is a very safe place for you now.
Moving monk north:
You... are you looking for something?

No
Moving monk north:
You dare lie to a Bulzome monk!? You are a fallen soul, a lost lamb of sin and deceit! A curse will befall you where you shall repeat ,amy wars, suffering much pain and loss until you tire and die!

If so, whatever you are looking for is not in this town. Go look elsewhere. The divine power of Bulzome says so, and I know this to be true. Got that? I suggest you leave town.

Girl:
The Bulzome Sect was praying everyday for a successful peace conference. Despite that, the conference failed. But obviously the Bulzome monks... all wear masks, and act strangely. Maybe their prayers have no benefit...
Standing monk:
You prayed deeply for peace, but sadly the conference did not go very well... This land's religion is to be blamed. From this day forth, denounce your faith in Elbesem and pray to Bulzome. That is the only way to peace.
Man:
Why would both armies, here for a peace conference, start fighting? I know that Barrand, set between both nations, is a key city to occupy, but I wish the fighting didn't start here.
Woman:
As the war continues, the fighting between the Imperial and Republican armies is moving northward. Up north is a town, Railhead, which is the main train station. If it's damaged, that would affect all of us.
Old woman:
Actually, Dusty Village, which is located to the north of Saraband, is used by bandits as their base. Now that this stupid war has begun, I guess the bandits will be acting up. Sigh... it'll be dangerous here again.
Gal:
I'm afraid of those Bulzome monks... Not just because they wear masks, but there's something evil about them.
House next to Republican Headquarters
Old man:
I used to go looking for treasures. At my age though, I can't take hard work. So I retired to enjoy and live life. Many treasures are still hidden east of here at Dwarf's Hill. Bandits from Dusty Village hope to get to them.
Old woman:
Those were the days when we went treasure hunting... I still have many fond memories from back then. Shiraf, the head of Dusty Village, used to be my husband's apprentice. Back then... he was a puny wimp.
Bookshelf:
Shiraf runs the Dusty Village bandits! Only riff-raff live in Dusty Village. Visitors might get robbed at gun point!

For us, it's a once in a lifetime dream to ride on the train... We are saving our money for that ride. Sadly, there is no free travel, and it's very rare to be granted a permit. I hope to ride the train before I die.
Blond guy:
The town to the north, Railhead, was built by the Governor General Garvin. I hear it is a huge town. The steam locomotives based there link the Destonia Empire and Aspinia Republic by going through Barrand.

I can... not... make it... Pl.. please... tell my wife... that I fought bravely.. and that I'm sorry...
Republican Base
Dead soldiers:
... there is no response. A Republican soldier is lying there.
Obright:
I was with the Produn army, and we were guarding Railhead in case of trouble. Then why am I in Balsamo? Patrolling the vicinity of the town, we extended our patrol over Dwarf's Hill, and entered a strange forest... Spreading out once insde the forest.. I heard a yell, so I followed it and then I saw a monster attacking Toby. I recall beating the monster, and then blacking out. When I woke up, I was in Balsamo. I don't know how I got here. But even if I find out the reason now, I'll be treated as a deserter. What should I do from here on out? Since the war has already begun, I cannot go back to the military. I need to think... about what I'll do next.
Duncan's House
Duncan:
I'm Duncan. an adventurer. I get along well with the son of the village chief, Toby. One day, when we went outside.... I got Toby into a dangerous situation, but a Republican soldier saved him.
Going out to the well
Duncan:
Wha... hey you! What are you doing? You enter my house without asking, go through my stuff... What else are you going to do? That door leads to my garden, but I just planted a bunch of plants. You can't go there. Go to another house! You're persistent, but I can't let you past that door right now. Got it? You playing a game? Leave my house.
Mayor's House
Man:
My son was attacked by a monster, and Obright rescued him. But my son won't give any details... Duncan, a dwarf and former bandit, carried Obright here on his back. He did not tell me what happened, either.
Old man:
For the conference, many headquarters were made. Now that the conference failed, why did we work so much? Lead your army southwest, and you'll see a deserted headquarters you can use. But, please don't start a war...
Kid:
Hi, I'm Toby. Duncan is my best friend. Even though I was told not to go to dangerous places, he and I went out to get some mushrooms when a monster attacked us! But Obright, this soldier from the Republic, rescued me!
Church
Priest:
The Bulzome cult prays to an evil god. Yet many here are being drawn to them, as they slowly lose faith in Elbesem. People's minds are open to delusions. I regret that I can't stop this trend. Don't let Bulzome deceive you.
Kid:
People in the Bulzome Sect look cool. They wear masks as a disguise... just like super-heroes!
Girl:
Everyone forgets what the priest has done for them and are joining the Bulzome Sect. Such weak minded people.
Old woman:
Just until recently, I had no idea that there existed a religion called Bulzome. No matter how much I pray to Elbesem, Imperial society will never change. Maybe I'll try praying to Bulzome now.
House between Inn and Toby's House
Gal:
Ah... No... ! Soldiers, Knights, Swordsmen... why do they enter people's houses and make a mess by searching through the house? We're always cleaning up after you. Haven't you messed things up enough? Stop it! Well... you are kind of cute... I'll let you inside the house, if... you promise not to... make a mess.
Old woman:
We were lucky to have a daughter. She helps me and she can't be drafted. I just worry about who she will marry.
Blonde guy:
She is my daughter, but... she's too fixated on neatness. She can't stand messes in the house.
Gal:
Parents are really gullible. Just help a little around the house, and they're happy just having a respectful child.
Bookshelf:
Ancient ruins have many treasures! If you have a map, you can enter the ruins. They are also filled with dangers.
Headquarters
Benetram:
We must rescue Emperor Domaric from the Bulzome cult... Otherwise, there will be no peace with the Empire.
Dantares:
The Bulzome cult members are inside the lodge. I wonder what they are planning to do? They're very strange...
Masqurin:
People in Balsamo are strange... They don't react to those creepy monks with the masks!
Grace:
I feel unconfortable staying in Balsamo, because of all of the Bulzome cult members here. My power as a monk counteracts their powers, but... Owww! My head is numb with pain!
Hayward:
The group of masked monks in Balsamo are the ones who broke through the guarded docking pier! If we're going into the lodge where they are staying, we better be prepared for the task...
Trying to go out
Dantares:
... Lord Synbios, I know that you are concerned about the situation outside, but we must try to find the Emperor.
